Re: C and D's Succulents

I don't think misting is doing them much good. I water mine every week, every few weeks through winter (but maybe I can increase both up a bit). Mine are about 6 years old. So I hope they will bloom anytime soon too.

Re: My drooping Madagascar Palm . . .

Are we talking about a Pachypodium lamerei here, is that your Madagascar palm, or do you have a 'real' palm? What is droopy in this case? The leaves just bending down a bit, or are they turning brown? A Pachypodium sheds its leaves when it gets dormant / does not get water anymore. A normal thing to...

Re: Northern U.S. Winter Melocactus care

An occasional cold night is not a problem, but don't let them be too cold for long and too occasionally. A temperature of 10C/50F should be warm enough to be safe for them for a prolonged time. Some of my seedlings do have to endure a temperature close to freezing, or even freezing in the past two a...

Re: C and D's Succulents

Attracting flies using a Stapeliad as bait Has anyone actually tried attracting flies for pollination by putting some rotting flesh next to a flowering Stapeliad? But them all in a box, once there are flies on the flesh close the box up and let the flies do their munching and pollination for a day ...

Ceraria pygmaea is nice when it is a compact plant. But in cultivation it seems they always like to stretch out.

Re: Free seeds / seed swap list

Time for an update! Note: I might be sowing some winter active species myself in a few weeks' time if there are not takers for them. I have the following species available for free to everyone, experienced or inexperienced: - Albuca sp. - harvest of spring 2023 - Delosperma sp. (one portion left) - ...

Re: 9 inches of rain in 3 hours.

Don't get too hooked up on the numbers. Just water the plants when the soil is dry. And when in doubt to water, just skip it. Don't just water every two weeks no matter what, if that is what you do. So just have a look how dry the soil is after the most recent soaking. And water when the soil seems ...

Re: I'm beginning to worry about my cutting

A few weeks is nothing. Growing succulents is about patience. Waiting for a succulent to root is just one reason of multiple reasons regarding patience. They are slow plants compared to other plants.

Re: Leaving my plants for 7 months. Advice needed

Where in het northern hemisphere? If you really really really get basically no or hardly a freeze during the winter, I would not bother with worrying about the cold. Basically any cactus can take up to -5C, especially if it is only occasional. The exception for a few of the known warmth lovers like ...

Re: Plant labels/ plant tags

For self sown seedlings, I put the year of sowing first, then a reference number to an excel sheet, then the genus and (sub)species name, and locality data (if available). I can write three lines of text with my label printer, so I make use of it. It's simple copy and paste from my excel sheet anywa...

Re: It is season for hiking again

Looks nice though, a scenery on top of a mountain. But a bit risky with gravity. I do like the look of all the crumbling rocks. Where there any cacti? We don't see mountains like this out here in the eastern seaboard. I don't see mountains like that here too. I have just cycled 140 kilometers today....
