Llifle has gone down for that reason in the past, which is why I suggested it. But it should have come back by now if that was the case.

Unknown Pilosocereus

I found the small one in a garden centre a few weeks ago and then found the larger one yesterday. I probably don't need two but I liked the colour. The big one was just labelled cactus but the smaller one had a Pilosocereus pachycladus tag with pachycladus crossed out. I assume the Pilosocereus bit ...

Re: Looking for a topical insecticide for mealybugs

Just select a pyrethroid such as permethrin. I've used both permethrin and tau-fluvalinate and found both work well. Permethrin was cheaper though.

Re: 3 Months Later: Time to repot?

I didn't have much luck repotting my last batch of seedlings at that size. I wouldn't risk it.

If you are worried about the spines damaging neighbouring seedlings, I'd take a small pair of scissors and cut the culprit spines off.

Re: Lighting Intensity/Choices For Indoor Setup?

I repotted it about a month ago (1 part quartz pool filter sand, 3 parts cactus potting mix), dipped the roots in rain water before repotting, and have been keeping it dry under those LED lights (at about 70˚F) ever since: still no signs of light-colored growth areas between the ribs. Do you have a...

Re: What are these green markings on my Ferocactus?

Yeah, it's basically light sunburn. A few of mine unfortunately have that. I've got ferocacti, gymnocalyciums and melocacti with it.

Re: How much light is too much light?

If you want to be technical, as CAM plants, cacti collect and store CO2 at night for photosynthesis during the day. Further light after they deplete their store of CO2 won't make the cacti grow any more. How much CO2 they can store would require you to purchase some expensive scientific instruments,...

I'm not sure M disciformis has enough ribs. I can't find anywhere saying how many ribs they have, but I can't find any pictures of any with this many ribs.

Re: Lighting Intensity/Choices For Indoor Setup?

Wow, that's a neat setup! I love that Melocactus, that genus is quite interesting. Do you still have your F. latispinus? There are actually 4 Melocactus there, though one is behind the cleistocactus cutting. One of them is very sad looking though and despite trying for almost 9 months now its roots...

Melocactus

https://i.imgur.com/3UuklYC.jpg I found this mystery melocactus in a local garden centre some time around new years. I thought it was M curvispinus but looking at more photos I don't think so any more. My guesses are M lemairei, M oreas, M schatzlii or M x albicephalus, but I would like some help n...

Re: Help ID

The button cactus is peyote. The most likely reason you would need help IDing it by providing what looks like a photo of of in the ground is because you poached it.

They are endangered for a reason. Don't do that. Even in the US the seeds are not hard to get.

Re: Soft Cactus After Watering

Is there a reason you unpotted your cactus instead of just using insecticide? I imagine saturating the pot with insecticide solution would have done the trick but without damaging the roots by desoiling them and then soaking them in water where fungus and bacteria can attack the cacti. Photos will h...

Re: Echinopsis ID Help

Watch the spine damage for mould for a few weeks. If you have any fungicide on hand it would hurt to apply some, but if you see mould you really must use fungicide. I agree it's probably a hybrid, but I'm going to disagree with naming it because there are a bazillion of them and they all look the sa...
