Re: What are symptoms of excessive nitrogen fertilization?
Bloated, big but not old, weak spines, too green of a color are all symptoms of excessive nitro. A split in the plant could also be from nitro, but could also be overwatered if the other symptoms aren't visible. Sometimes seen by mass commercial growers to achieve faster turnover of product.

1 to 1.5" from the soil line. It's in a 2.5" pot. Old enough to flower but still a baby!

Re: About Opuntia cochenillifera(Nopalea cochenillifera) pic
It would appear you are correct, those photos are not O. cochenillifera. O. auberi and O. dejecta both have very similar growth forms, very similar flowers and grow in the same basic geographic areas. It's most likely one of those. I grow O. auberi and it's basically spineless, but can have random s...

Re: Spines
Fantastic! I do really grow for spines. The flowers are mostly a bonus for me. Also, what is Echinocereus montanus? (other than attractive). peterb E. viridiflorus var montanus. Came from BCSS seed, no data. I think the name is actually invalid. It is, but it doesn't seem to want to go away :D I gr...

They appear to be on the soft side, but I'm thinking Ecer. stoloniferus ssp. tayopensis.

Re: Another greenhouse build...
Thanks for the comments, guys! Looks fantastic Darryl! The other 2 are like this one? And can you do a guess of sq.ft. of table space per GH? Just trying to judge it against my future stuff. What made you decide on 30% cloth? I was leaning towards 40 or 50, but different environment. Quite hot and i...

Re: Looking for an oreocereus
O. leucotricha (O. densilanata) has pink(ish) flowers and a nice amount of wool. O. trollii also has a good amount of wool, usually an orange/red flower. O. celsianus has wool, but not as much as those 2. Flowers are red/orange. O. pseudofossulatus has brownish purpleish flowers with a neon green st...
