Re: Is this rust or frost damage?
It has been outside for two years in the same pot/location. Our high mountain desert climate is high UV solar radiation and can get 🔥 HOT 🔥 in July and August. The other horse crippler is 4 feet away in a pot exposed to the same conditions. With no brown spots or other ailments. All my outdoor in gr...

Is this rust or frost damage?
Echino. texensis, in a ten gallon pot with O.polyacantha. Year round outdoors. Hard growing, purchased from Nevada grower a couple years ago. Its pollinating partner is a few feet away in a similar pot and has no brown spots....yet. Winter is fading into spring. We have had some teen degree cold sna...

Re: need grow light assistance
Hey Bill, I'm at 4500 feet above sea level (more intense sun at altitude) in a cactus loving high mountain desert climate...so very little grow lights experience for me. I overwinter the natives in ground and the less hardy in South facing windows. We do use a grow lights system for our veggie garde...

Re: Where do you keep your cacti/succulents?
My Utah natives are in ground year round in a south facing xeriscaped area next to the house masonry. Lots of hot summer sun. Those in pots spend the summers on the porch and winters inside on a window shelf. I gave away most of my South American species. The Southwest Desert species in pots are sti...

Re: Is Lophophora cultivation legal in USA?
Thank youOne Windowsill :) I am referring to the what’s on this list are called ‘other ‘peyotes’. It’s a bit unclear to me if these to are seen as illegal? If so, selling f.ex. Asterias is illegal.. The other peyotes are not illegal to grow, they contain no mescaline or other controlled drugs. If y...

Re: Your best photo
Thanks, Alejandro! Most of those were cell phone images. The bottom Milky Way was entirely cell phone captured. The Moon images were also with a cell phone held up to the eyepiece of my telescope. The others were taken with an older Canon DSLR I bought used last year. Amazing to me that cell camera...

Good idea, I looked back at the very first pics of it and concur. It used to be quite globular and filled the planter. Now... it's looking like it has been on a keto diet.

Re: South Korean plant poacher jailed in US
Usually, it's the color and spination. Copi's also develop a waxy coating in situ that is less common in cultivated specimens. IIRC, it's called farina. Cultivated look like greenhouse queens, In situ look gnarly.

Just too cool, k.maks! From a desert hike last January. And another shot of my big Fero.latis. I also have a pair of F' grac. coloratus from Miles2Go nursery.

That grouping looks great! The Ferocactus latispinus is a favorite of mine. I have a few. This one has yellow orange spines...making me think it's either a variation from F.L. or a cross between FL and FL flavispinus ( which has all yellow spines). I don't know. My others are all red spined.
