Re: Wooden container for cacti

I have even seen them grown in a length of plastic house guttering cut to the length needed with a couple of stop ends put on. Or you can use plant troughs since plastic ones are often available at garden stores. OK if the plant only puts out a stem that grows in one direction rather than offsets. ...

Re: Wooden container for cacti

Wood will rot over time. I would not even think of using pressure treated wood. Cedar or Redwood maybe. But why wood? Is it because you want a large container? If so, ever hear of Hypertufa? I have a few very small ones and one larger one. The large one is the only one I've had growing since it was...

Wooden container for cacti

Hello. I was thinking about building a wooden box for my S. eruca to lay in. Would a wooden container be a bad idea?

On another note, what medium would be best for the S. eruca. Should it be mostly sand? Rock? I have it in a mixture of cactus soil and mineral/sand.

Thanks!

I'm thinking it's some type of Haageocereus.

Re: ID plz!

Looks to me like something from the Echinopsis genus. Might be hard to ID without flowers or a close up of its spines.

I don't believe that's a mamm. It looks more like something in the Echinocereus genus.

Heard this was really rare

Hello. Trying to ID this for a friend. Was told it was really rare, too, so remembering the name was a challenge. I don't have any other photos, unfortunately. But I also know it is 20+ years old and about 6ft.

Thank you!

Re: Black substence on my cholla.

It does look like mildew. Any way to clean it off or just let it dry out? Actually, that's called "sooty mold", and it's a problem when we're growing some Opuntioid species in a humid environment. Good news is that sooty mold is a bit unsightly, but by no means life-threatening. The humid...

Black substence on my cholla.

Hello. So I discovered this black substance on my Opuntia fulgida v. mamillata. I think it might be a fungus. Any tips on how to get rid of it would be great.

Re: Looking for Backebergia militaris

I don't think you'll find this. This species is a Mexican endemic so habitat-collected seed isn't likely to be available unless someone smuggles it out illegally (and as they make unattractive seedlings it seems unlikely anyone would bother). It grows to 5-6m. Flowers are produced from an apical/te...

Re: Looking for Backebergia militaris

I would like plants or seeds of this as well, but I'm not sure anyone in Australia has any. I would love to be proven wrong. Well, the perfect time for you would be to ask this forum around October and November, when most of the European seed lists are being updated. I could always order this speci...
