Re: Hana's cacti

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! Any chance of one of them developing the other characteristics later when they get older?

Re: Heat Dormancy and Watering

Here in Brazil summer is hot and wet. Although my cacti are protected from the rain, I water them regularly on summer.
To tell you the truth, I never noticed any cacti in summer dormancy (but this may be just lack of observation from me)

Re: Hydrogen Peroxide and seedlings

I'm wondering how well H2O2 works on fungi and mold. I've had a ton of problems with seedlings getting afflicted with all different types of fungus and mold over the last few years. I tried many different remedies, including 3% H2O2. I can confidently say that H2O2 had absolutely zero effect on any...

Re: Astrophytum special names

Thank you very much Frank
I understood what you mean. I agree they are not hybrids group 1 X group 2.

Here is a picture of the asterias that do not have red throat:

Re: Astrophytum special names

If you make an Astrophytum hybrid, you should consider following two groups. Group 1: asterias, coahuilense, capricorne, senile (yellow petals and orange throat) Group 2: myriostigma, ornatum ( yellow petals only) What does it means when a supposed asterias or capricorne do not display an orange th...

Maybe as a safeguard you should cut two or three healthy, big branches and try to re-root them. Just one idea .

Re: Astrophytum special names

Thank you very much, Frank Fully understand about onzuka and fukuryu I want to be sure about the impossibility of asterias receiving pollen for other plants so if you dont mind I would like to ask again in a different way: Consider I have 3 plants: A : pure asterias B: pure capricorne C: hybrid F1 a...

Re: Astrophytum special names

Onzua and fukuryu are group 2. Hybrid, myriostigma x asterias is difficult to keep. Asterias can not receive pollen of any other Astrophytum species. Asterias can be a pollen supplier only. I have 1st and 2nd filial hybrids, HakuranSupers. Frank That is very interesting and important, Frank, thanks...

Re: Astrophytum special names

By "hybrid" you mean crossed with another species ? Which one would it be? Is it possible to know? Ornatum? Asterias? Your plant is most likely cross between A. asterias "Superkabuto" and A. coahuilense . I sowed a batch of seeds of that particular hybrid couple of years ago, an...

Re: Astrophytum special names

It is a myriostigma It's a hybrid 100% and I would say 99% of the cultivars we see are hybrids of one kind or another. The best you can call it is.....''Astrophytum hybrid'' Thank you Mike. By "hybrid" you mean crossed with another species ? Which one would it be? Is it possible to know? ...

Astrophytum special names

Astrophytuns receive japanese names according to traits they present, such as "kikko", "onzuka", "fukuryu" etc. I would like to learn more about that. Is there any web site were I could find this kind of information? Also, do we have here in the forum a thread to identi...
