Nice cactus plants! And a Euphorbia and a few others, I see to. Did you get any fruits off those Ferocactus? No daiv, I did not get any of the fruits. I guess I didn't think to do so at the time. I would like to have explored the surrounding desert-like hilltops but had no transportation. I underst...

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

My wife and I recently took an ocean cruise from Los Angeles, Ca. down to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. This Baja Mexico area is called the Mexican Riviera. Cabo is a very expensive resort, catering to wealthy Americans and Canadians. I took some photo's of cacti landscaping in Cabo...

Nice plants, Ed! That one sure is streatched out! Must have been growing under a bush or something. The old growth was the way I received the plant, and the new top growth has been since I've had the plant. It seems to like it's new location. It is about 8 or 9" tall which I suppose is the opt...

Thanks guys. I believe it must be neomexicana (radiosa) after reading the description in my book Cacti of the Trans-Pecos by Powell. The brown-tipped spines and the spine count coincide well. Thanks for your help.

No I can't make it this year but a few members from our Austin Cactus Club are attending. It should be a good time. Maybe next year for me.

Hi Ed- well, the tuberculate ribs, general spine arrangement and appearance of the new growth all suggest Thelocactus bicolor, defined by a broad set of characters. The flower does appear to me to be unusual, perhaps a variant at the extreme pale end of bicolor flowers. But really I'm mostly going ...

Seeing the Delaware River reminds me of my great-great-grandfather who fought during the Civil War under Robert E. Lee. My g-g-grandfather was captured and imprisoned in a prisoner of war camp at Fort Delaware which was located on Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River. He was later released at the ...

Hi Ed, definitely a form of bicolor. Interesting very pale flower and yellow stigma lobes. Not sure where it might fit in the many named and unnamed ecotypes from Texas. If you hadn't said it was from Texas I would have guessed bolaensis. peterb What are the identifying characteristics for it to be...

Another Texas Native for ID Please

This plant was given to me last year and you can see the new growth that was achieved during the past year. I have no idea what this cactus is? I wish I had a bloom photo. Hopefully this year it will bloom. http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/832_P4070002_1.jpg http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/us...

Hi Ed, nice looking plant! I'd be interested to see flowers if you get some this year or next. This Coryphantha echinus is from Dagger Flat in the eastern Big Bend: http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/576_echinus1_1.jpg And this Coryphantha is from near Lajitas in Brewster County: http://www.ca...

I was gonna say echinus. Isn't the var. pectinatus(pectinata) just the name they used to give to the juvenile plants before they grow the central spines? Chris Actually my cactus book states that it is possible that juvenile plants will not have the central spine, but also possible that adult plant...

Thelocactus ID? Another Texas Native

Another cactus given to me by a friend although he was not sure of the ID. He thought it might be Thelocactus bicolor? The new growth exhibited near the top is the growth since I have had the cactus. It is a Texas native. The bloom should be a big help in the ID. This might be a good one for peter t...

The more I study it I'm thinking it might be Coryphantha echinus var. pectinatus. This would be the "pectinate" form that lacks the lower porrect central spines, but is otherwise the same as var. echinus.

Coryphantha ID?

A friend gave this cactus to me last year. It is a Texas native and comes from Val Verde county near the Pecos River and westward into the Big Bend area. I'm thinking it is a type of Coryphantha but what variety? http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/userpix/832_P4070003_1.jpg http://www.cactiguide.com/fo...
