Re: Growth Over Time - Wisteria
Very good Elie. Meyer lemon is very popular here and that is what I mostly grow. Agave nectar syrup is mostly used instead of refined sugar to make outstanding lemonade (margaritas too) using the delicious fruit. Recipe: Squeeze one Meyer lemon into a glass containing ice cubes -- top up the glass w...

Re: Growth Over Time - Wisteria
...... Yes that's why i surrounded my house with jasmine, gardenia, loquats and orange trees. You can smell thr perfume from the end of the block ..... I don’t wish to hijack Wayne’s thread, but here in Southern Arizona it seems several commercial and hobbyist cactus and succulent growers cultivate...

Re: Growth Over Time - Wisteria
I have fond memories of the spectacular Wisteria flower displays in gardens at the foot hills of Fujiyama (Mt. Fuji) in Japan when I lived there in the early 1960s. The Japanese people have always held Wisteria in high regard and often featured representations of them on a variety of artistic artifa...

Re: Pilosocereus ID
I tend to stay away from pilosocereus identification .......... Me too Elie .... especially for seedling or juvenile plants - the plant structure, spination, rib count, indeed the overall aspect of most juvenile Pilosocereus is often so very different from mature plants that attempting to ascribe a...

Re: Let's grow some Melocactus!
Stupid cat knocked over the arrojadoa & the top section broke off. Rooted easily, so now I have two! My Augustus woke up long enough to say “Count your blessings Sue - instant and effortless propagation”! BTW, Gus commands my very comfortable typing chair while I have to use a stiff, high back,...

Re: Let's grow some Melocactus!
Hello James - If you are lurking out there, this is a wonderful thread! Dave W just sent me to it when I posed several Melocactus questions. Very helpful, thanks for taking the time to put it together! Brazil has such wonderful species of cacti. I only wish they were more available. Thank you so mu...

Visit the following CactIGuide article relating to making your own soil mix: http://www.cactiguide.com/article/?article=article8.php Don’t make life too complicated. Re: Cutivating small growing tropical cacti
Hello and thanks for sharing! I love your cacti setting and displays! It seems very practical and efficient! What zone is Tucson Arizona, as I found your note on not growing cacti that need cold overwintering useful .......... Hi Marina. Tucson is in USDA zone 9. ......... But couldn't you leave th...

Re: Incidental Melocactus seedlings
I've had better luck with volunteers than I did sowing seeds. I have dozens of A. fissuratus and A. retusus. Mammillaria, Tehlocactus, Turbinicarpus, and Lophocereus seem to do well for me also. I find Loph seedlings all over the place. Certainly the case for me with Melocactus - I harvest literall...

Re: Incidental Melocactus seedlings
Will be fun to try to figure out the parents this year James! No results before mid-April! I also want to have my chance. . . Whereby, Melocactus determination, reputable maybe from the tenth year - or not? See You all in April, best wishes K.W. Just heard that you're visiting in A...
