Re: Birds!
Sounds like the little guy is lucky to still be alive, I heard once that if young birds are found they should be left as the parents will still feed them, but this definitely sounds like an exception to that rule! Especially if he couldn't fly. Seems likes he's got a very good temporary home :D I ha...

Re: FREE Melocactus seeds
Mine have started to germinate after I planted them last week so I'll see what kind of germination rate they get

Re: IDs
Could the first one be Albizia julibrissin or something similar? I'm afraid I don't know much about these types of plants

Re: Cactus Flower
Cactus flowers generally don't last very long, some are even open for only one day and then die, so yes unfortunately this is a glued on straw flower, the cactus might eventually out-grow the flower and it'll drop off but that could take a while. You could also try cutting bits off the flower until ...

Re: Birds!
Here's a blue tit that looks like it's adding the final touches to the nest, should be eggs in there soon! The picture was in focus when I took it, I think the resizing affects it quite badly, there's a good version on my 500px page though

Re: My seed growing progress
I took a couple of picture of the Adeniums today, only are actually growing so far and another 3 are just starting to grow as they have a root and the stem is starting to swell inside the seed case. I would also like to ask if it would okay to take the three that are doing well out of the bag as the...

Re: FREE Melocactus seeds
No rush :) still very cold over in Russia then! We've finally been getting a bit of warmer weather for a week or so (up until the last couple of days) but I still haven't watered any of my plants yet just in case the temperature drops again. Understandable if you didn't want to send the seeds in tha...

Re: Is this a pest?
Thanks for the information Keith, I think this mealy bug was a one-off as I've checked all my cacti almost every day since I got rid of it and I haven't noticed any more. I think I got a very lucky escape! I'll keep all your information in mind just incase I have the misfortune to see them again, if...

Re: Germanation temperature
Good to hear some have now germinated :) I'm not sure how difficult Aztekium are to germinate and how long they take to do so, but I have some Mamm. bocasana that developed fungus and they are still germinating, although I don't know if some haven't germinated because of it. Anyone will probably tel...

Re: Not bargain bin mysteries this time ;)
I agree with A. asterias for the first one, could the plant in the third picture be a slightly etiolated Crassula quadrangularis?

Re: Not bargain bin mysteries this time ;)
The one in the bottom right of your first picture is Crassula ovata cv. 'Gollum', no idea about the others I'm afraid, you might need some more pictures of them to be absolutely sure.

Re: Germanation temperature
I think you should yes, it just keeps the conditions consistent with the way they germinate naturally when it is colder at night. If I remember correctly I think they need to get down to around 16-18 degrees C at night (at least my cacti and succulents need to be like that, so it could be warmer or ...

Re: My seed growing progress
Okay, thanks for your help coltonschultz, much appreciated I'll see how they do over the next few days, the one Mamm that germinated has no fungus on it so they should be okay. I'll be sure to sterilise the seeds next time!

Re: My seed growing progress
Okay thanks, it doesn't appear to be on all of the seeds although quite a few look a little furry from it. The Mammallaria seeds have it in the pot and one has germinated so I'm think that as long as it stays on the seed cases they should still be able to germinate. Could this be correct?
