Re: A tale of two Echinocactus

Look at that ! Crowding seedlings for better results doesn't hold too well to this evidence does it ? Do you find that seeds of this cactus are hard to germinate ? doesn't look like it from your picture I ask because I have really low germination rates with this species. and then to top it off they ...

Turbinicarpus pectinatus

I noticed my Tubinicarpus pectinatus germinated in cooler conditions that most of my other seeds. I usually germinate on a heat mat inside so it stays above 65F all the time. T. Pectinatus did not germinate on the heat mat inside like my other seeds but after putting the pot outside where it gets to...

Re: What's wrong with my E. micromeris???

By the way, Keith -- I grow my cacti with mineral mix, so fungal rot is extremely unlikely.' I disagree with that epi's rot off easy. looks like orange rot to me. If you grab the top and wiggle it is it very loose ? Most cactus have a firm feel to them unless you just watered them. Root rot and they...

Re: What's wrong with my E. micromeris???

Thats is what just happened to one of my Astrophytum asterias and 2 of my mammillaria dehertiana all many year sold from seed. If it was easy it would be a boring hobby. Now you will have room for another one. You need to try again, minimum organic in the soil. Check the roots when you throw it out....

They tend to be expensive from eBay, mostly aimed at pot growers who'll pay anything to stop their plants getting infested, so see what you can find elsewhere." Thats probably not good as they then smoke it later. yes I'll start looking around to rotate pesticides always a good idea, thanks. Ri...

Re: E. Horizonthalonius from seeds !!!

Chipping is not needed. Maybe that's the reason for 0% germination?" yea maybe :D I killed them. I've tried without chipping, same poor results maybe 1 out of 100 germinate. I will keep experiminting around. I mailed some of the same seeds to a Indonesia grower who claims he only got 40% so I g...
