Re: showing of my new babies, thoughts?
Hi Cactius!Of course your pots are way too big, you´ll get good and nice root development even in a much smaller pots. What worries me a bit is that you say that you water your plants when the compost is dry and then say that you water almost every day? That means that you water when the surface is d...

Re: Winter blooms
Beatiful plants! You have treated them well by the look of them. Here in Sweden it´s a "green" Winter so far +3-5C every day with a few dips below zero. Only flowering plants in my GH are a few Ariocarpus and Gymnos

Re: Melocactus Info
I keep my Brazilians (Melos,Discos and Uebelmannias )in my flat at about +18C and they get a small amount of water once a month, just to keep the roots alive. In summer they spend 4-5 months outside in the garden ,under rainshelter and they are doing quite well,i think.

Re: How many plants do you have?
More than 2000 cacti, maybe a hundred seedlings and perhaps around 100 of the other succulents. Since my GH is just 10m2 I try to stay with the smallgrowing ones,i.e. very few Ferocacti and so forth. There are quite a few sorry looking ones that I can´t make myselt to throw away, they´ve been with me...
Re: Shrinkage
From what others have written on the subject,it seems that I´m keeping myGH too warm! But on the other hand there is a bunch that really would like it a bit warmer so this +4C is a kind of compromise... Well ,a higher heating cost against having plants die on me-well,so be it
Re: Shrinkage
This is a mystery to me.I keep my +2000 plants in the GH at +4C during Winter and there is no notable shrinking at all. Since almost everyone else is experiencing this fenomena I must do something wrong? I stop watering at the end of september, keep the temp at +10C for a couple of weeks and then red...

I have a grafted Uebelmannia pectinifera that i have had for 12-13 years now.I have no idea what the stock is but the day i got the plant i buried the stock completely and the plant just grows on,it is now 26cm high and except for a few brown spots it´s going on nicely although it has divided dichot...

Re: Melocactus matanzanus -- the fruits of its labors
I Think that black spots on this kind of plants isn´t rot but rather a kind of virus infection and it will stop after treatment with a systemic. I wouldn´t repot melos at this time of the year, but they certainly don´t need a deep pot. But if they seems to grow in the pots they are in now, don´t do a...

Re: How important is a cold winter?
You could surely use the garage if you are certain its frostfree. Total darkness is no problem as long as the plants are bone dry when put in there. Another way is to build a threesided box on the windowsill, that means that the plants will be quite a bit colder than the rest of the room and you dont...

Re: Is it worth it? (O. microdasys)
Its not hard to get an O.microdasys to flower, just get it outside. Lots of fresh air and sun will do the trick, although the flowers aren´t much to write home about.Big, pale yellow, kind of silky appearence stays open for a couple of days. Can i get it to flower here in Sweden then so should you!
Re: Disaster!
I had a similar experience last summer. Was going to catalogue my Sulcos, so put them all on a table outside the greenhouse, sorted out nicely.During the night a deer ran amok and tipped the table so that all 180+ Sulcos was on the ground, all too many out of their pots. After cleaning up the mess I fo...
