Re: Natural looking Lophophora trichomes
Thank you One Windowsill. I did look up the general botanical meaning of Trichome, but I was hoping that the CactiGuide glossary would give a more specific meaning as used in cacti, such as in the discussion above on Lophophora. I think most of the ones found in cacti are just hairs. In other plant...

Re: Natural looking Lophophora trichomes
I tried to look-up the meaning of trichome, but it is not listed in the CactiGuide glossary. From the OED (www.oed.com): Botany . The general name for any outgrowth of the epidermis or superficial tissue of a plant, as hairs, scales, prickles, etc It is from the Greek meaning a hairy growth. One ha...

That will depend on the type of plants, they vary a lot.

Re: E. pachypodioides germination help
The reason being that compounds released by burning can help break dormancy of many plant seeds, even those not preadapted to a fire intensive ecosystem. That is rather interesting considering this article I read a few days ago: "Why would a plant that doesn’t live in a wildfire zone need to b...

Re: E. pachypodioides germination help
Hi! :hello2: I have no experience with that species. However, are the temperatures you quote the air temperature around it? Gardeners often talk of "bottom heat" when talking about germination, because it makes a difference. The substrate may not get up to air temperature because of coolin...

Re: Is Lophophora cultivation legal in USA?
When importing lophophora, usda and aphis states that only williamsii is controlled but not regulated by the usda or aphis. I find that quite interesting. diffusa, fricii, caeaspitosa, pass through customs checks I thought that caespitosa is a variety of williamsii and was never validly published. ...

Hoodia hybrid
Hoodia flower.JPG I got this plant from Uhlig Kakteen in October 2020. It was sold as Trichocaulon flavum . That is an old name, that plant is now usually called Hoodia flava . It flowered last week and I now know that it is definitely not Hoodia flava . It appears to be a hybrid between two specie...

Re: Is Lophophora cultivation legal in USA?
Thank youOne Windowsill :) I am referring to the what’s on this list are called ‘other ‘peyotes’. It’s a bit unclear to me if these to are seen as illegal? If so, selling f.ex. Asterias is illegal.. The other peyotes are not illegal to grow, they contain no mescaline or other controlled drugs. If y...

Re: Where do you keep your cacti/succulents?
One Windowsill; under your bed? Rather small plants then or your bed is on ‘high heels’? From my experience, rotting meat and rotting fish smells equally bad..but it will be interesting to hear from you, when it flowers. What do you intend to do then, sleep on the coach or move the plant from the b...
