Re: Top of the cactus dried - cut?

I used store-bought cactus soil without much peat. Actually I filtered most peat out before re-potting. The soil contains sand and lets the water get through pretty quickly. Last time I re-potted I used the same soil and it was not compact but loose. But after reading more information on personal se...

Re: Top of the cactus dried - cut?

No, it did not get frozen. I bought it a few years ago, not knowing I should remove the clump of peat around its roots. So the cactus got worse until this stage. Anyway, I removed the peat, let the roots dry and re-potted it. Although there is no growth I have the impression there is still life some...

Top of the cactus dried - cut?

Hi,

The top of my cactus is light brown and looks dry. Should I cut it?

Lophophora and Mammillaria?

Today we went to a huge cacti nursery here in the Netherlands and got a few for our collection. Photo 1: The left Lophophora seems to be Williamsii but I am not sure. The right Lophophora looks like Fricii. The cactus in the background: no idea. part1.jpg Photo 2: A few look like Mammillaria. At lea...

Interesting, it somewhat confirms acidifying water is a benefit to cacti.
Another interesting link on acidifying water: http://cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 417fc0ccb5

I also live in the Netherlands, in The Hague to be specific. Here the water from the tap has a pH of about 8.3. To be sure I lower the pH to 6.0. Therefore I add 15 drops of white vinegar ('cooking vinegar') to half a litre of tap water. I just started with this method, watered them a few times. May...

I noticed this cactus at a market and bought it because I had not seen it before, with its long black spines.

no water

The reason for considering giving it water was that it shows some activity, which I did not expect.
But I will take no risk and follow your advice.

Thanks!

Lophophora Williamsii flower at 18°C - give it water?

Hi, One of the Lophophora Williamsii that I bought a few weeks ago is starting to have a pink color in the middle top of the cactus. I would be surprised if it turns out to be a flower, but if so, should I start giving this cactus a bit of water? Or is it wiser to leave it completely dry, as I do wi...

Then I'll have to be very patient, move to a bigger house or move the cactus outside to the balcony and stay awake because it seems to have night flowers. :)
Thanks!

unknown cactus with a glued flower...

Hi, This unknown cactus had a flower glued on top. I tried to remove it as much as possible but removing it completely would damage the cactus more. Maybe just leave the glue and hope the cactus will grow over it (literally?). It is approximately 4,5 cm wide, 8 cm tall, has 7 ribs and 9 spines per g...
