I suspect maybe Pilosocereus tillianus. Which proved to be not very cold hardy here either.

Now the Mamm. Had a tag, don't know what happened to it after I photographed it :-( 2 inches in diameter and flowering age. Spines severely recurved. One black tipped central pointing up, also severely recurved. A very touchable cactus. You really got to rub this plant the wrong way to get poked. I ...

A couple ID's please, a Mam and a?

Was on the northwest side of Tucson today and stopped in to Bachs Cactus Nursery. If you spend a certain amount (never asked what is was, I always exceed it :-) they give you a freebie. They have a table of cacti in 2" pots you can choose from. Usually fairly common plants. But they had a half ...

Variegated Aloe

Picked this up at Tanque Verde Gardens in Tucson a few weeks ago. They weren't sure what it was a variegate of.On another forum it was suggested it's a cultivar of Aloe arborescens called "Gold Rush", but what few pictures I've seen of that one are of a plant that's striped and lacks the s...

The Pereskias, though true cacti, are very primitive and closelly related to woody plants. They are considered the earliest members of Family Cactaceae. Perhaps even the first cactus. They are deciduous and will drop their leaves in winter. They also need to be treated like tropicals during the grow...

Ariocarpus are reported to develop quite a tuberous root. I think your pic bears that out. These plants are reported to shrink even below ground level in times of drought in the wild. I've found them nearly impossible to kill in cultivation.

Hey CP :D I'm also a fan of the "Blue" cacti and succulents. One of the favorite plants in my collection is my Pilosocereus pachychladus. Formerly P. azureas, a much more attractive and appropriate name. I'm starting to wonder if Botanists are as dry and humoreless as accountants and banke...

Finally feeling some winter temps here. Dropping in the high 20's F at night. My little electric heater for the green house is keeping up no problem, keeping the temps 45 to 55 degrees. Guess I'm a little spoiled. I live in the desert.

I have to agree with Spiniflores. I had one that unfortunately succumbed to rot but was a magnificent plant for awhile. Lost it before I got any flowers.

Thanks guys :D I suppose I should consider it a lesson learned. And I take heart in that I've gotten some recognition. Hopefully someone else will come along and agree to publish some of my pictures. Hopefully for a price. The truth is I hate my day job. It's boring and unsatisfying. But raising the...
