There are several Opuntia species that will. Not sure about others but there are plenty of experts on here who will know. Where in PA do you live. I know a great nursery that has a good selection, some they claimed to have developed themselves.

Thanks all for the incredible photos of my favorite cactus. As an East Coaster buried under snow, it really warms my heart.

That is an amazing barrel. Even more so that it is still "standing" This has me wondering what the life span of these barrels are. Has it ever been documented? If this one is 100 yrs old, it looks very healthy and not ready to go anytime soon.

Darryl,
I agree there is nothing prettier than certain Ferocactus after a soaking rain, but after re-reading Bucks post he specifically says: "most will fade to grey because they get too much water in cultivation" That is what confused me as I had never heard of that before. Thanks

Thanks guys for all the great responses. I have never heard that spine color could be influenced by too much water in cultivation. Sorry if this is a ridiculous question Buck, but is this due to possibly tap water washing the color out of the spines or just not being grown "hard" enough? I...

Thanks for the info guys. I'm sure all reddest ones that are rescued or for sale at nurseries get snapped up by local collectors. Since I am in Pa I'm at the mercy of what I find available on-line and the person on the other end that chooses the plant for me.Let me tell you there are alot of color b...

Thanks for being understanding Peter, your photo was the first thing I thought of when I read the topic title. I'm surprised to find out these are common as far as the color in California. I was told by the managers of two fairly well known nurseries from AZ that the reddest form of this species all...

Thanks Rosemarie,I sent a picture of the plant we are trying to identify to the nursery that has the last pictures I posted and they think it is a Yucca but have know idea what kind. They also said the plant in the photo they sent is twenty years old which probably explains why it is larger than you...

I found some agave striata nana for sale so I think I'll start with three. As Darryl pointed out the plant was labeled as a Yucca and I sure was conv...
