He's a prized one! Keep Him!

Sure looks like a Pach. Very valuable plant @ that size as well! Definitely a superb specimen. Send me a message if you ever want to trade a cutting.

Hi V thank you for the reply and the insight. I see how it can be used. I have to admit though that I am always a bit reluctant in using such methods. I guess I am a bit "old fashioned" in promoting branching by chopping heads off :D Christos Of course. I would however point out, that the...

I second the Echinocereus ID. If my memory serves, the hardware store seed packs contained seed of Opuntioids, Echinocereus, and Ferrocactus. I would imagine this is what was used, but if not, it would be hard to give a precise ID.

Regarding application when the plant is dormant: Im not sure it would work, if it did work, it would be forced growth and likely grow etiolated, IF at all. Regarding your second question: The basics behind it involves the hormone causing cell divison. I cant answer the question any better, perhaps s...

Very nice, hopefully you can get a root bud before the cold arrives. I'm still hitting the low 90s during the day further inland, but they say we have a cold front next week. Time for the air conditioning grace period ;)

Yes, I hate to hijack dustins thread, but one thing led to another, I'll happily repost, with the new photos, later in the evening if youd all like.

Haha, thanks there vaughn on all those corrections. The extent of my use of it on grafts is a recent experiment where I cut a dying graft on Pereskiopsis down to a thin slice and applied a dab right to the fresh cut vascular tissue just to see what would happen (if anything), Im simply trying to see...

Either or works Daiv. I have observed both to work. You dont want to overdo it and scratch the areole OFF, but some exposed green flesh within the circumfrence of the areole actually is what you're aiming for. It works in any case, exposed green tissue or not. I have only observed one areole to soft...

I do not know how long the gel will last, I use as much as I mix.. Regarding the powder, I read the best storage is dry and cool, refrigeration doesent seem necessary. I will know if this stuff lasts at least two years before long, as another grower I know has had his this long and not used it. Mayb...

The bayer should do it, its a systemic and no joke. Excellent stuff. It it mealybugs or scale? They're both resistant to pesticides due to their coating, but the bayer is absorbed by the plant itself and actually poisons them as they eat. Just dont use it on spider mites unless its formulated for su...

Using BAP/Lanolin mixture to force branching

This is a technique which I learned and am passing on. The ingredients required can be found on ebay ($6-11) and the pharmacy ($15) respectively. All in all, you're looking at $30 max for a large supply. More growers should be quite aware of this advanced technique, I likewise learned it from some v...

darn, you should explore using BAP/Lanolin mixture to force branching. Works like a charm and you can get a lifetime supply of the stuff for under $30USD.

Apply a dab to an areole with a toothpick and within two weeks, it branches. Its almost like clockwork.

That explains it really well Rhodo, so thanks for the clarification. I could understand a variegate being expensive and desirable given the difficulty of propagation (standard and via TC) while still maintaining the variegation. This plant has no variegation, so I was at a loss as to why it would be...

Thats a buddy of mine and a local grower selling it.. He also recently sold a Sanseviera "Kirkii"with marginal yellow/red variegation for $2500 to a buyer in Thailand. He actually has excellent prices on his cacti, especially if you make an appointment and buy in person. Sanseviera's arent...
