Re: Most delightful fragrance in cacti?
Flowers of one of my Echinocereus viridiflorus (DJF 1288, North East of Saguache County, Colorado, USA) have intense citrusy scent, something between lemon and lime, very pleasing.

Re: Intergeneric hybrids in Cacti
Hello Frank, I have several mature T. alonsoi specimens in my collection and they flower at least three times a year. Last flowers this year appeared at mid-October which coincides with flowering season of most Ariocarpus species in my area (Croatia borders with Italy, so I guess their conditions ar...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
Well, I'm not sure what influence relatively long drying period in your case. My mineral mixes tend to dry within a week (similar to what Steve wrote). Do you keep your plants outside or indoor/greenhouse? I guess your mixture will be ok for most cacti, except for extreme xerophiles who would probab...

Re: Intergeneric hybrids in Cacti
Very nice looking plant Frank. I have seen a photo posted by a Italian grower of a (alleged) hybrid between T. alonsoi and Ariocarpus retusus. Plant looks like normal T. alonsoi with exception of a flower which is pale pink instead of magenta of regular T. alonsoi.

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
Hello everyone, I’ve recently went to a full hydro mix of pure pumice and it takes around 8-10 days to go from fully wet to bone dry depending on how warm and dry the environment is. Should I add in another mineral that doesn’t hold as much moisture to get the medium to dry out faster or is that ti...

Re: Hana's cacti
G'morning Nino_G, Very strange looking aselliformis. Probably a degraft? What were you using for a rootstock? The aselliformis on the photo is a degrafted one. The grafting stock was an Echinopsis hybrid. Since aselliformis plants were not available, I started from seeds. The germination rate was n...

Re: A. caput-medusae X A. miriostigma?
Thank you for sharing your experience Hanazono. I generally avoid cross-pollination for the purpose of making hybrids, but sometimes it happens naturally (I keep my collection outside and various insects visit in search for nectar). I have also observed that hybrid seedlings, in general, grow much s...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
I thought I might add the link to the article " The Stone Eaters " published by the Romanian magazine "Xerophilia" in 2013. This article greatly changed my approach to growing cacti and I've been using mineral mixes ever since, and with amazing results (if growing plant as simila...

Oh, I'm really interested about A. ritteri rooting results. So far I haven't heard of successful attempts of degrafting those. Your specimen is quite big, that probably gives it better chances.

Re: Gymnocalycium "Triple Trouble"
Interspecific interactions are interactions between two species of the same genus, while intraspecific refers to the interactions between two individuals of the same species (in this case G. mihanovichii), so both should be applied if one is to be accurate .

Re: Hana's cacti
That Obregonia looks very old - I'd give it at least 20 years. Or was it grafted?
