Re: I am 45.If it is late to sow Ariocarpus seeds?

After seeing the replies from my previous friends, I would like to say that it shouldn't be too late. I am 42 years old and started sowing in 2010. This year is already 2024, and over the years, I have successively sowed: Ariocarpus agavoides, Ariocarpus fissuratus, Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus, Ario...

Re: Record the growth of my plants

In my opinion, Akadama has a similar porosity to it's native habitat (gypsum based). Despite the PH difference. the porosity looks similar: Tom, Gypsum and akadama have similar pH - close to neutral. In fact, gypsum is slightly more acidic. The following pictures were taken recently, and I found it...

Re: Record the growth of my plants

The following pictures were taken recently, and I found it unwise to take photos every three months because only minor changes can be seen. The first seed sown on October 3rd last year had white mold in three pots, which has not been completely removed yet. The two pots in the picture are lucky and ...

Re: Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it?

I put the substrate in the glass jars, including a top layer of course sand, add some water, and put in the pressure cooker. It comes out sterile as a whole, no need to handle it later. I give my seeds a bleach bath, diluted, for about 10 minutes, rinse with tap water, then sow them in the jars, an...

Re: Hana's cacti

G'morning Nino_G, May I ask why did you cut off the roots? They look healthy to me. Reasons are: 1. Rotting of Astrophytum starts from roots and running up through vascular bundles. Even if it looks alright visually, vascular bundles may rot already. You have to cut the tap roots and check the sect...

Re: Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it?

Has anyone thought about potting sand? Aztekium123's problem is mold, not bacteria, and IMO mold spores probably wouldn't survive in the sand. What I have in mind is putting a thin layer of potting sand over one's substrate of choice. When the seeds in the sand layer germinate, their tiny roots can...

Definitely mold. Although I don't have any experience growing cacti from seed, this may provide y'all with a few ideas: https://www.thespruce.com/white-fuzzy-mold-on-seedlings-3972289 Other ideas from Craig Fry of C and D Plants: https://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34225 Craig recommen...

Re: Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it?

I agree with Jangaudi's advice. Also, you may apply 3% hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) with an eyedropper, which might help. What species are the seedlings? The variety of these seedlings is: aztekium I have also prepared a hydrogen peroxide disinfectant because there are three pots in this batch of s...

Re: Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it?

I'd lower the water a bit anyway, looks very wet, good for seed germination but seedlings don't need it to survive. Mostly it's gonna be the empty seed pods that start the mold and keep it growing. You could use tweezers, and take them out. Also a top layer of sand works well to keep the mold at ba...

Re: Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it?

I cannot use a completely dry method to remove these bacteria because these young seedlings are too small and die before the soil is completely dry. My soil was also subjected to high-temperature sterilization and disinfection before sowing, but it should not have completely removed this bacteria. I...

Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it?

Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it? I planted a batch of young seedlings, and these white hyphae appeared about a month after they appeared. I don't know what to do, I used some thiofuramide drug particles on the soil surface, but it didn't work. I have...

Re: Record the growth of my plants

Akadama,Just a layer on the surface of the soil. The surface soil is actually not very critical. Because if everything goes smoothly, it should be necessary to transplant seedlings or change pots the next year. The seeds of this plant are really too small, about the size of a needle tip. It is not po...

Record the growth of my plants

I really love this charming little plant, although it grows very slowly. I planted another batch of seeds this autumn, and I plan to take a photo every three months to record its growth. For plants in the Aztekium genus, I estimate it will take at least 6 years to bloom, and if things don't go smoot...
