Beheading and propagating stacked crassulas
You can't go wrong with stacked crassulas. These things grow and propagate like weeds. Unfortunately, most can't take my cold winters (with drops into the 20s).

Re: What makes crested/monstrose cacti?

The flowers had a hard time opening (guessing that is because of the odd flower shape) so I didn't take a pictu...

I think Mrs. green's pictures were in reversed order. The Mammillaria and Fero pictures are swapped.

Re: Shade cacti seedlings idea question.
Enough light that they don't get etiolated (for some slower growing species you might actually want a bit of etiolation: viewtopic.php?p=388884&hilit=propagatio ... us#p388884). But not so much light that the seedlings get stunted (turn red, brown).

Re: Unknown Wild Cacti in Northern Utah
I think the best thing to do here would be for someone to make a new updated thread on how to resize photos. Then, others can add on how they personally resize photos. It might help if we update the thread every so often. Moderators can pin the thread. It would probably be best if the thread were to...

Re: Winter to Spring
Agree on the chopping. You can re-plant the top section after callousing. But be careful not to have too much of the etiolated portion, or when new healthy growth appears, it might leaves a weak point (which could make the plant bend or fall over).

Re: Winter to Spring
Etiolation. I suspect it was not given enough light while in "hibernation". Alternatively, it was given too much water/fertilizer.

Sorry to hear that... I've successfully shipped the gemmae of Drosera scorpiodes using this method, and the gemmae are around the same size as Astrophytum seeds and went through undamaged.
