Re: LateBloomer’s Seedlings 2021
Interestingly a variegated lopho next to a normal lopho in the same conditions however look very different as if the variegated is not getting enough sun and the normal lopho is getting too much. There is slower growth in the variegated lopho as is expected however I like these are coming. Took arou...

Re: LateBloomer’s Seedlings 2021
Two lopho williamsii germinated very low in the pot I wonder how long they will survive. Also new sprout on the a Dioscorea Elephantipes but sadly lost another seedling. Now have 3 seedlings

Re: Astrophytum Asterias sowing?
If seeds don't sprout within 2 weeks let them dry out completely for a week or two and try again... some stubborn seeds will still sprout BUT if you have zero germination it is likely a bad batch

Re: Astrophytum Asterias sowing?
As long as the soil is constantly moist and temps are over 20C... best around 30C then you should have germination within a week usually 3-4 days. You don't need humidity dome but it does make it easier if you soil drys out too quickly so you dont need to constantly moisten

Re: LateBloomer’s Seedlings 2021
Some seeds are still germinating in large planter... I also randomly placed a single lopho williamsii that germinated into a 1.5L pot so that the roots will roam free and I won’t need to repot for years hopefully. Overkill but that’s fine

Post those photos I enjoy looking at pots overfilled with seedlings... find it satisfying to see those photos of seedlings pushing up against each other due to lack of space.

Re: LateBloomer’s Seedlings 2021
Decided to just dump some photos... I found it interesting to see new root growth on some seedlings that are still root exposed. I’m also wondering if a few seedlings will be able to survive considering they germinated atop some rocks and the roots still haven’t reached the soil or even cracks of th...

Re: LateBloomer’s Seedlings 2021
I had 1 Dioscorea elephantipes rot while all the other seem much stronger in general one has exposed its caudex which I have partially covered with some rocks since they are getting full sun exposure. The planter with ariocarpus and lophophora mix have had a few casualties however those that are sur...

Re: 7 month old Avonia quinaria seedlings are flowering?
Perhaps it is just the lighting/heat conditions that favor flowering? Indeed those are flower buds congrats
darn it I hate when I find a new plant on here that I now want to grow.

Re: Seedlings in cold temperatures
At 5-10C I don't think the seedlings will go dormant just slow growth rate. If the seedlings are still in humidity domes/baggies temps should be slightly higher. You will likely have some deaths due to the cold stress but they should grow fine with enough light

Re: Cultivation of a Dioscorea Elephantipes.
Amazing thread but I have a question... do you guys leave the caudex completely exposed or slightly bury? I'm gonna leave my seedlings alone to expose themselves on their own time... 1 seedling already has out of 4. I see most people exposing the caudex since an early age so was wondering if air/lig...

Re: LateBloomer’s Seedlings 2021
The Dioscorea elephantipes that had no leaves sprouted a new set no new visible sprouts however the caudex is larger than I expected considering it never had a visible set of leaves. 1 month old these are pretty hardy plants. There were zero germination on the old trichocereus bridgesii só I decided...

Re: LateBloomer’s Seedlings 2021
I have 5/10 spouts on Dioscorea elephantipes however 1 seems to have lost the leaf and may just die the one not seen on the bottom. No special treatment and no humidity dome. 1 heavy watering once soil almost dry. Also got first spines on seedlings in lopho/ariocarpus planter. There has been a few m...

Re: Seedlings and temperature
Latebloomer; Thank you :) I must confess I am a bit torn between the hard grown way and the more ‘pleasing to look at’ way when it comes to growing my cacti. Going trough a lot of ‘in habitat’ pics from different sources, I must admit that not all of them ( the cacti) have a look I find very attract...
