Re: Lighting Intensity/Choices For Indoor Setup?
Is that framework what you would want to heat overwinter as discussed in your other thread? Should be doable. Just insulate the sides with solid insulation sheets and seal with duct tape. You could use the expanding foam in a can to hold it all together. My winter mins get to neg 5, but only for a f...

Re: My flowering Cacti 2021
Harold, I would try to sell your monstrose Echinocereus reichenbachii. I'm sure somebody would really love it and pay for it. On your Astrophytum's it looks like they are buried very deeply. Is that a mulch of gravel around them? Or something else? I really like it. Really looks like you took the ph...

Re: Using rooting powder before callus
Did you read the label on the powder? Maybe there is a dye in it so you can see if you've gotten all of the surface covered?
I don't think it matters what plant you applied the hormone to, but more details can help in getting answers. What hormone powder did you use?

Re: Ferocactus Dormancy Artificial Temperature?
This problem is something I am going to need to solve too, and soon. I contacted the salesman I use at work for all things heating. He is going to drop by soon with some samples of a silicone rubber heating cable he supplied a friend to heat his bee hives. I used to keep bees back in the mid 80's an...

I'm a little bit far from US, but cactus growers come from all corners of the world![]()

Re: Insulation question
Carbo, I never asked about puncture damage. I know they turn up the heat when it snows so it melts the snow off. I know they have gutters between bays to allow walking on the roof. Maybe they patch. I don't know.

I sure do hope they clump. Would be great.greenknight wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 11:49 am It's past the dangerous part, when the split was fresh and rot could set in - the wound has callused over, should cause no problems. There will be scar, but it will become less noticeable over time.

<..> Its hard to believe this plant can overgrow this damage Anttisepp. I may have to keep it to see what happens.<…> There's always hope. :) Replant it in bigger pot, give better soil, enough water and mineral nutrients in summer. It's easy fast growing problem-free plant. I think you cared this b...

Re: Abused Parodia haselbergii
Very few places offer a selection of cacti. It may be regional, but try visiting a Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart, or even Trader Joe's. I've found some interesting plants from those stores. Just this week I bought a pair of nice sized Euphorbia obesa for $10 each at Lowe's. I also bought my P. haselb...

Re: How to encourage root growth?
I'm very interested in this topic because I produce plants for sale. Rooting in some species can take months, and that is just wasted time in terms of production. I know that temperature plays a big part, and lower temps definitely slow this process. Carbo, where are you located? You have not put t...

Re: Insulation question
The more airspace the better. You say "foil". I'm assuming you don't mean something impervious to light. In some commercial greenhouses I've been in, hoop houses at least for the roof, they have an airspace of maybe 6 inches with fans blowing air in to keep them inflated. They also have an...

Re: Abused Parodia haselbergii
I don't know about it growing pups, but I believe this species is self-fertile, so you could sow the seeds and propagate that way. That is , if you don't mind the wait for them to grow  I never attempted pollinating the flowers and have never gotten seeds. Too late now as the flower in the ph...

Re: Ferocactus Dormancy Artificial Temperature?
I don't see any problem with the refrigerator as long as the plants don't need any light while dormant. I have stored Carnivorous Plants in the refrigerator for dormancy. I doubt your refrigerator will work in the unheated garage in the winter, if that is where it is located. They need to be in heat...
