I think I have found the cause, and they've even started healing/looking normal again. Turns out it was a lack of water, combined with possible sun damage. They were weekly watered yesterday and within a few hours the sunken areas had levelled out and the colour began returning to green from white/y...

Thanks for the replies. I treated the plants with pyrethrum and the greenhouse with permethrin yesterday and the growth seems to have stopped. A friend recently had thrips in his garden so maybe that was it? Could very well be coincidence. Will keep this posted with how things develop.

Several years ago I had to sever the head off a etiolated Lophorphora seedling. It sat doing absolutely nothing for almost 3 years, I checked on it today...
