Re: Good cacti videos?
I do prefer reading but from time to time I have tried finding good/interesting videos about cacti/succulents. There sure is a lot out there but.. finding good/interesting ones are a different matter. A lot of the makers seems to be just as keen on highlighting themselves and how funny and cool the...

Re: My modest collection
So, if the caudex area has been lifted for a time, can it be buried again and continue to get bigger? How long is that time? That is, the time the caudex area has been exposed to the air. I rebury smaller caudiciforms I've purchased to get them to grow quicker. Never had problems. I use a primarily...

Re: South Korean plant poacher jailed in US
mikethrcactusguy, I would not be making accusations if I haven't seen the evidence of selling poached plants for myself. Here's a video showing the massive amount of poached caudiciforms they were selling when I visited in 2019. It is impossible these are all seed grown due to the sheer size and for...

Re: South Korean plant poacher jailed in US
Since I must be a total idot, explain how the 2 circled cactus are clearly habitat collected.. What gives it away they were poached? Thanks Steve-o is spot on. The coloration gives it away. Some plants only develop specific characteristics when grown in the stressful conditions of their habitat. Co...

Re: South Korean plant poacher jailed in US
Caudexguy99. Where did you read that Desert Creations is selling poached plants? Mike M They're well known to import various poached caudiciforms from Africa. I didn't know they were importing poached Copiapoa also until recently. They're having some big Copiapoa sale this weekend and if you look a...

Re: South Korean plant poacher jailed in US
It is rather sad to see that poaching cacti continues to be a problem in this day and age. Just today I've seen photos of the nursery "Desert Creations" in the Los Angeles area selling poached Copiapoa. Some of which are rather highly priced, 300$+++ range. Are people actually willing to p...

Instagram accounts
I decided to make an Instagram account because it seems like a more active community. That being said, anyone have some good cacti n succulent accounts recommended to follow? Preferably people who post their own plants n growing or habitat shots and NOT the people who are peddling shirts, stickers, ...

Re: Cacti for sale in Europe/Scandinavia- were do they come from?
The difficult part of buying plants overseas is that you don't know how many stops it has been before getting to you. I see a lot of Europeans buying wholesale from other parts of the country like the Canary Islands before selling online via Ebay. For sensitive plants like Melocacti, that's a lot of...

Re: Transplanting Agaves
I agree with samhain, they can tolerate quite the beating in my experience. Digging a larger area around the plant can prevent too much root damage, but you may find the roots have spread far into the ground already.

A heating pad under the tray may help with the heat. I use one for my seedlings and they appreciate it during the night.

Re: Melocactus with almost no roots- no hope?
Do you have a photo of the bottom of the plant / the roots? Melocactus are notoriously difficult to root as mature plants. If you are not sure about your capabilities with them I would recommend starting with a smaller plant that has not yet matured.

Burn out
Has anyone else ever experienced feelings of burn out or regret while growing? I have begun to feel so disinterested in my collection to the point where I don't really care what happens to them.

Most frequently killed Cacti/succulent?
I'm curious to what people think is one of the most frequently killed plants, either from your own experience or what they have heard from other growers. I would nominate Melocactus since a lot of people seem to freeze them within the first year of growing, something I am guilty of. Either that or P...
