thank you for the help. i do like the monstrose form, but i still want to try to get a opuntia ficus indica as you mentioned. it sounds like a challenge i would have fun with, and i gain another, somewhat different, cactus in the process :) i already bought a much bigger pot for it a couple of days ...

everything i hear about peat is bad. even for my vegetables i keep clear of it. it seems to me, although i am new to cacti, a peat mix can be easily replaced with coir and a little love.
