Re: dormancy
The more tropical species as George says probably only go dormant through lack of water, or even summer dormancy (known as estivation = summer hibernation) since they are CAM (Crassulacean Acid Metabolism) plants which when it is too warm at night their stomata stay closed all the time to conserve ...

Re: dormancy
In winter i keep my plants outside on an open balcony but shletered from rain. I have found the only reason to push them into dormancy is to withhold water in full sun before bringing them in a little thirsty this way i make sure they can't grow but some plants still might lean or stretch. The plan...

Re: dormancy
If a cactus is inside all year (at room temperature?) it won't really go dormant and will probably end up with some elongated growth, unless you have a place that it can get lots of direct sunlight or some pretty strong grow lights Most of my plants grow outside during the warmer months but my more...

Re: dormancy

Like if they never experience cooler temperatures will a summer grower ever go fully dormant and vice versa with winter growers? i hope that made...

Re: weird growth on domino cactus
Looks like it was blinded - the original growth point died - and one of the top areoles took over. Any number of things could have caused it. Remarkable specimen - I didn't know they could get that big. wow thats really interesting thank you i wonder what caused it i guess we will see where it goes...
