Re: Cholla Seedlings
I soaked them for 3 or 4 days actually (at room temp). The planting method I used was to fill a cup with sand then with water slightly above the sand. I then put the seeds in and left uncovered until the waterline dropped below the surface. I wouldn't use that method again because there were a lot o...

Grow - Trade List and Plant Swap merger?
To me, these boards aren't different enough to really justify having both of them. Looking through the topics, there doesn't seem to be a real distinction between what gets posted in one vs the other either. And I don't think either gets enough posts to justify having a separate plant trading boards...

Re: Cholla Seedlings
High germination rate, apparently. Did you proceeded any special treatment before sowing? Congratulations, anyway! I soaked them before sowing. Other than that I didn't do anything 'special'. I kept them in the fruit until right before I planted them, though I'm not sure that would make a difference

Re: Cholla Seedlings
The seedlings now have what look like tiny cacti growing from between the leaves. It's really cool to see this stuff, as a first time grower. I'm excited to see what comes next

Propagating a crested succulent
I want to propagate what I've tentatively identified as a crested echeveria hybrid. The crest is a flattened, paddle shaped stem with bunches of normal leaves coming out of the end. Any ideas on how to propagate this?

Re: nematodes?
I finally got bti (mosquito dunks brand). I'm trying to figure out how to use it now. These products seem to be meant to used in standing water, which obviously my seedling cups don't have (anymore...). Any tips?

Color change in Crassula
My neighbor has some succulent landscaping (this is in southern California) that I pass from time to time, and I noticed an interesting change the last time I went by. They have several crassula ovata, I'm not sure about the cultivar, but it's montrose and until recently the leaves were canary yello...

Cholla Seedlings
After writing off my cylindropuntia imbricata seeds as unviable (because l kept the cup too wet and a lot of them molded or rotted), I discovered some were sprouting. After about 10 days, they look like this. I was surprised at how different they look than other cacti seedlings I've seen (and more l...

Re: nematodes?
I didn't bake the sand because I thought it was sterile. But definitely I will in the future to be safe. I'm growing the cacti in cups covered with plastic wrap I found some instructions on the internet that seemed well though out but I'm not sure now. I filled the cups a quarter inch above the sand...

Re: nematodes?
So I tried hydrogen peroxide and it didn't kill the larvae. For what it's worth it didn't harm the seedlingsWould dilute (0.6%) hydrogen peroxide kill my seedlings? Apparently that's the way to kill these things
I already set some traps and will be trying bti as well

Re: Torch cactus (X Trichocereus grandiflorus) seed viability
All the seed sellers have seeds for the trichocereus hybrids available for sale. I would think they came from flowing plants. yes? Seeds from hybrids aren't necessarily fertile. Hybrid seed is the seed of two different plants that have been cross-polinated. So the parents don't necessarily need to ...

Torch cactus (X Trichocereus grandiflorus) seed viability
Does anyone know if Trichocereus hybrids produce viable seeds? And if so, what will I get when I plant them? I collected some T. grandiflorurs seed and was curious about planting it
