Re: What are you sowing?
Question what do you do with all the hundreds of cactus you get ? assuming all goes well Oh geeze, that's the rub, isn't it...... Well, I've got outside space for a ton of flats for the survivors. Plus with my experience trying to grow a lot of these species my attrition rate has been... "sign...

Re: What are you sowing?
Here's what seeds I've been accumulating lately. I plan on sowing them in the spring of 2024 when the weather warms up enough to move my current seedlings outside to make space under my grow lights. I'm jumping on the Copiapoa cinerea bandwagon in a big way. ...But also continuing my project o...

Re: Is this a good deal ?
Copiapoa prices are out of control thanks to its superstar status on Instagram. I don't know if I could spend $200 on a plant, but I have bought some seeds cinerea seeds from Mesa Garden that were a splurge as far as seeds go ($20 for 10). YMMV as far as value proposition for a plant you really, rea...

Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
I actually do that with North American species, although not ones with tap roots. Sips every 4 weeks, but not if your overnight lows are in or below the 30s. If you keep your cacti indoors during fall and winter, you won't have a problem. No water at all for South American species. How much do you ...

Re: Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it?
I cannot use a completely dry method to remove these bacteria because these young seedlings are too small and die before the soil is completely dry. Oh for sure. My seedlings are just shy of a year old so they can take a little dryness. Definitely not a possible solution for ones as young as yours!...

Re: Seeking help from everyone, what kind of bacteria is this and how to deal with it?
You know, I too am having the same problem and was gonna post about it about haven't gotten around to it yet. I've been using sulfur powder which keeps it at bay but it still comes back. I've tried letting the pots dry out completely for a few weeks but that didn't work either. It would be great if ...

Re: Hello from Tijuana México
Be sure to add some of the natives, as well. Find out what's growing near you, and start with those first. Ferocactus virisescens is a native species characteristic of the SD/Tijuana area. Also Ferocactus cylindraceus, which is from a little east of you but still a local. For something a little les...

Re: Opinions on Bonsai Jack?
Features look great. But the price is kind of high even for large packages. If you keep or try for 3 plants is fine but for large collection... Yeah, the price is a little much. I was kinda hoping to be able to approximate the Gritty Mix myself by getting comparable ingredients and mixing and scree...

Opinions on Bonsai Jack?
Anyone used or have any opinions on Bonsai Jack's soil mixes? Specifically Jack's Gritty Mix or their Inorganic Bonsai Mix. Re: Are you growing your cacti in a soilless mix?
I thought I might add the link to the article " The Stone Eaters " published by the Romanian magazine "Xerophilia" in 2013. This article greatly changed my approach to growing cacti and I've been using mineral mixes ever since... You and me both, man! Reading this article really...
