Pleiospilos nelii with root rot
I have a P nelii that I overwatered this season. It seems to have lost its roots. It’s flowering, but won’t take water and the newest leaf set looks very thirsty. I eased it out of its pot to look at its roots and they don’t look great. I reported it in some new media and have watered it lightly onc...

First greenhouse advice
I’m looking to get (or maybe build?) a small greenhouse within the next few months. This past year was my first year growing outdoors, and I used a polycarbonate cold-frame. My problem with this was even with two panels removed and the top up the temperature regularly exceeded 110 F, and most things...

Rooting stapeliads and stapeliads cuttings
I had a lot of luck with this group of plants until I moved and my conditions changed. At this point I'm trying to root a number of cuttings and reestablish plants that have suffered some damage. I have most of these in my growing are, which is a coldframe in my yard. They get sun until about 1230, ...

Getting lithops to absorb old leaves
I have a little trouble getting some species of lithops to absorb their leaves. The "keep bone dry until the leaves are gone" doesn't seem to work for me, they start, but then eventually the new bodies get wrinkles and the plants stop growing. Some water may rejuvenate the new bodies, but ...

Re: Mealy bugs on Dorstenias
If you are in the US imidicloprid has worked well for me in controlling mealybug. I have heard from many sources that is does not work. Perhaps some populations have resistance? I use Bayer rose & flower.

Stapeliad cold tolerance
I have a cold frame in my yard where I am growing my cacti and succulents for the summer and fall until it gets cold. I would like to move my stapeliads outdoors, but nights here, even in summer, frequently dip below fifty degrees Fahrenheit for 2-6 hours. Days can be between 60-90 F. I am wondering...

Re: Mesembs cultivation: give plenty of water whenever your pots get dry (?)
In my experience p. nelii is surprisingly thirsty. Mine is in a 3" clay pot outdoors and I soak it like twice a week. Too much water when in winter can be bad though.
