Echinopsis under grow lights and winter dormancy
I have acquired a numer of Echinopsis recently, both hybrids and species. I will be growing them indoors under Grow lights initially until they can go outdoors for a few hours each day for some natural sunlight. I also have a question regarding winter dormancy for these Echinopsis indoors - how long...

Re: Growing Rebutia question
I have spent the last few months replacing the Rebutia's I lost, and adding quite a few others, including Sulcorebutia's. Those Rebutia's that I lost were grown outdoors Spring/Summer and received Morning sunlight. They did not receive hot afternoon direct sunlight at all. The only factor that I can...

Re: Growing Rebutia question
In checking my records, I purchased them in the Summer of 2017. In reviewing my records now, I see I no longer have them, so I don't know if they died over the Summer or Winter. If they like it a little cooler - during what Season? Summer or Winter? If during Winter, that would present a big problem...

Growing Rebutia question
In 2017 I had purchased (4) Rebutia. In reviewing my files I noticed not one of them has survived. I'm trying to figure out what I may have done wrong in their cultivation. I grew them in pots in Full Sun, Spring and Summer, did not overwater them and kept them Dry in winter. Was I missing something...

Re: Winter .... Indoor temps and Watering.
I have Central Heat. The whole house gets heated in the winter. I don't heat one room at a time. I have Pets in the home that would freeze if there was no heat provided to them in the Winter. My home is all on one floor.

Re: Winter .... Indoor temps and Watering.
Unfortunately I will not be able to keep my cactus collection "cool". They are now in a heated home for the Fall/Winter. With that being said, I am going to assume that they will need watering about every Month or so. Last year I did not water any at all --- and lost a few cacti, they just...

Re: I can't get much sunlight
I just purchased a wonderful LED dual light that clips on to table in front of my living room window ---- it is available from Amazon. Check it out.
I'm using it right now for the cactus seeds I planted, but you can also use it for cacti. It's a great lamp.

Winter .... Indoor temps and Watering.
I have a large collection of Cacti that will be brought indoors for the Winter. The collection consists of Echinopsis hybrids/species, Gymnocalycium, Astrophytum, and Echinocereus. Since I did not have alot of flowering this Spring/Summer, I am thinking that perhaps the cacti did not have low enough...

How do I grow Cactus seeds ?
I know, I know. This is a dumb question, but I really can't get clear information on the Internet or on YouTube about growing seeds. The videos are not very helpful, as many are just video, with no dialogue. So, my question is: I have just purchased some Gymnocalycium seeds. I sterilized the mix in ...

Re: Gymnocalycium saglionis
I grow all of my Gymnocalycium for their flowers, and this plant I have read that the flowers are unable to open fully due to the spines - they have a hard tim getting thru the spines.

Gymnocalycium saglionis
The one Gymnocalycium I probably do not have is Gymnocalycium saglionis. It has been labeled as difficult. Is there anyone growing this Gymnocalycium that could offer me some information regarding your experience with this cactus.

Re: When to stop watering ......Gymnocalycium
last year when I had all of my potted Cactus indoors for the Winter, I did not water at all......bad move! I lost a number of cacti because I assume the plants became to desiccated and they just literally "Collapsed". I don't think I will do that again. I was advised to watered slightly ev...

When to stop watering ......Gymnocalycium
I have a collection of about 40 Gymnocalycium that are currently potted and growing outdoors on my patio. Since it is September and the temps are getting cooler and the light conditions have changed, is now a good time to stop watering and preparing the Gymnocalycium for bringing indoors for the Win...
