Re: If you were to start over, what would you do differently?

G'morning 7george, First I thought that cacti are totally forbidden in Australia because of that old story with Opuntia and rabbits. I have lived in just two states, New South Wales and South Australia and I do not know the situation of other states. Opentia species are "pest plants" in So...

Re: Hana's cacti

G'morning Fatich and Nino_G, Have you ever checked the roots from time to time? How long after it started rooting? Checking roots during rooting process is not a good practice and so I have never checked roots. I set an off-set for the rooting in spring and the off-set is rooted by autumn which mean...

Re: Hana's cacti

The attached photo is one of rooted Aztekium hintoniies. 3 off-sets on a grafted cactus were removed and set for rooting 4 years ago. Size of off-sets were around 3 cm in diameter. Aztekium hintonii grows very slowly. Current size of cactus on the photo is around 4 cm in diameter. I can see a new ri...

Re: If you were to start over, what would you do differently?

My current cacti collection is 4th which means I restarted 3 times from Nil. All interraptions of collections were caused by relocation in relation to my jobs. Between 3rd and 4th, I moved from Northern Hemisphere to Southern Hemisphere. Climate, available cacti, available potting-mix and pot and lo...

Re: Some of my seedlings

G'morning keith, Strombocactus do you grow them enclosed in plastic ? They germinate easy but so small and more difficult than other tiny seed succulents like lithops. Dry out or rot is my experience. I sow seeds in a 10 cm square pot. Pots are accommodated in a large plastic box which is 80 cm x 40...

Re: Some of my seedlings

G'morning Nino_G, Yes, they're not much faster than Aztekium species. Price is much lower, though (at least in Europe), due to low demand. How old are your seedlings? Seedlings on the photo are 6 and a half years old. The germination rate of good seeds is quite high. I am not sure but it may give lo...

Re: Grafting albino variegates to pereskiopsis disaster

G'morning AirWreck, I found the central meristem of the last remaining scion to be infected with a wee spot of rust fungus. I have never experienced to graft white Coryphantha species but experienced Astrophytum asterias. White asterias seedlings are possible to graft. I am not sure because I do not...
