Hugo's comments match my experience with a huitzilopochtli. I opened a few fruits and there did not appear to be any obvious seeds.

I only have one plant, do you need more than one to get seeds?

Thanks!

Field Trip to Mogollon/Colorado Plateau in AZ

I went up to a place about 20 miles North of Heber, AZ. Heber is in the highlands/forest transition to the Mogollon/Colorado plateau. There were some interesting Cacti. They must be fairly hardy. There was a lot of snow on the way there, but only traces on the ground. I don't have IDs for the cacti,...

I think the Steno is a griseus. I'd agree with muehlenpfordti on the last mamms.

These plants look fairly "fresh". Are they usually recently dug when you find them?

Oh, come on, everybody! Don't you see that FREE SHIPPING is included!

Such a deal!

I am continually stunned by the bizarre and brazen sales tactics used by some for cacti.

On the other hand, you never get what you don't ask for!

The more I look at this thing, the more I'm convinced that it's an M. perbella. I'll take it home tonight and look at them side by side.

I'll let you know what I find. I'll take a picture too. I left the plant on my desk at work last night...

I went to look at some plants earlier this month. They had a Leuchtenbergia principis that looked like the pot had fallen off the shelf. There wasn't any dirt in it, just the plant and roots. The roots were holding a big ball of soil, but that was it. The plant actually looked pretty good and was fa...

Has anyone ever seen an M. huitzilopochtli..

...that has split dichotomously? I went to the Desert Botanical gardens here in Phoenix at lunch today to look over the plant selection. I saw what I thought was an M. perbella. The label says M. huitzilopochtli. I have never looked at a perbella and a huitziolpochtli side by side, but the spination...

I'll weigh in with Stenocereus griseus. I've got a small one and the one pictured looks just like it. I also have a small pruinosis and the ribs are more scalloped between areoles on mine.

Not an steno expert, so take this for what it's worth.

If you have the time, grow some. They do pick up steam after they get bigger. I bought one 4 years ago. It was about one foot (30cm?) tall, It's now about 3 feet (1m) tall. It's funny, because compared to all my other plants it's huge, but when I look at it I always think of it as a baby. As long as...

Wow, awesome photos! I wondered what the C. biglovii spines looked like close up. I've removed several of them from my person. The worst one was a spine stuck about 3/8ths of an inch into my shin, had to use pliers to get it out. The first time I saw a segment on the ground, I figured I could pick i...

Cactus Shelter

We've had some nasty frosts the past couple of years, so I decided I needed some way to shelter my plants. There is no suitable space in the house so I made a lean-to out of PVC pipe and sheeting. It seems to be working so far! I'm happy with the result but it's too small already! Tim Pictures are h...

A few months ago, a large chain store had some nice M. matude in cups with googly eyes glued to them! The cups had clown bodies printed on them. They were nice size cactus, about 4"/10cm tall. All the ones I looked at had gobs of hot glue and there would have been two bare spots....near the top....

ahHA! One of your messages gave me a clue, Harald. You mentioned that you had some heavy rains? Judging by the flower buds on the plant, I'm guessing it was fairly warm during the rain. I suspect that the cactus engorged itself with water and started to tip over when the ground got soft and the root...

Wow! Arizona Cactus Sales has about 10 plants that size. Some with 2 or 3 heads. Fairly scruffy looking like the one on Ebay, but only $25-$35 USD.

I don't know about shipping plants to Australia, but I can get you a better price than $162 AUS.

Supply and demand....
