Post by jeanfreau »

What cacti are the best at producing large, juicy, sweet, edible fruits? ....Suitable for cultivating in a very arid environment. Thanks for replies!

Opuntia's like the dry desert and produce large fruit, as with many Cylindropuntia's. Cholla (as well as other) fruit has a history among many native tribes in the USA. You can even purchase cholla fruit and recipes from TOCA.

In addition to the ones Darryl said, a "Cereus peruvianus" would be ideal as well. Nice large cactus "apples" and a very easy plant to grow.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

A couple of nice Peniocereus' will give you some delicious fruit. Though, probably about a 5-10 year wait.
