This is the same plant above only 7 years later or so (today).

Many more spines, less purple. Has buds so apparently happy.

Looks desperately thirsty to me, or it might have a bad case of root mealies. :?

It's looked like that for years, maybe it's getting a bit much heat and light where it is, but it always flowers. I replaced it's soil last fall and the roots were okay. The bench it's on isn't under shade cloth (just translucent plastic), so it gets hot enough to kill mealies, which succumb around 120'F.

I have acquired several new plants

Turbinocarpus macrochele
Tephrocactus articulatus
Copiapoa Tenuissima Cristate
Astrophytum capricorne
Pygmaeocereus bieblii which had an unfortunate accident and fell off the shelf immediately after re-potting. Its got a split at the bottom but hoping it will heal ok.

Stll awaiting my Geohintonia mexicana and Pelecyphora aselliformis to arrive. Will take some pictures when weather improves enough to hang around my back garden with my phone out. Well I was running low on collected rain water so plants will have a drink when it warms up I suppose, might even leave a few out in the rain.

Yeah must be quite gutting that the goverment there allows one set of people due to they're views to cultivate, wild harvest and get high on them but us other peoples view of just growing them and maybe saving the species from annihilation is totally wrong and illegal. Got to love the rules though 'they protect us and the environment'.

Hi, may I ask where you get your limestone that small? I am struggling to find anywhere that offers say 25 - 50kg rather than a full dumpy bag, or who do less than 10mm size.

I collect bits when out walking so any size that fits in my pocket then use a heavy lump hammer and smash it up until I get the right consistency. Its better than buying specific grains as it splinters and you get good rough edges an lots of small bits.

I just noticed you live in uk so the best place to look is any forestry road or famers tracks. A lot of the time these rough roads a laid with limestone rubble just collect loose bits on the side of the road or rail way sidings if you have any disused railways near you the gray stones that hold the track are lime stone/dolomite.
