Star of David

Post by Tammy »

Hi All

I am new on this forum.
Over the past few months I have taken a keen interest in Cactuses. I have only recently started my own garden.

About a year ago I was given a cactus as a gift and last week it flowered for the first time.

I have been searching to find out what cactus I have, as I have never seen the flower before.

Someone told me that the common name is a "Star of David" - has any one ever heard of that?

Please help!

Hi Tammy,

Your plant is not a cactus. Its a succulent from South Africa. It belongs to the family Asclepiadaceae. The full name is Orbea variegata.
(Synonym: Stapelia variegata)
Great plant :)
