Suggestions for new contests

Post by daiv »

Make your suggestions here for what you'd like to see as a future "theme" or topic of future contests.

These may be categories such as: Best group or pair, best cacti surroundings, most original location, etc.

Hello daiv

I think there are several themes we can explore for the contest

I was thinking about a macro categorie, about our plants ,

Could be an tiny euphorbia flower,a spine or group of them ,a pistil ,aureoles ,a bee ,an spider or any litle thing we find in our suculents

Oviusly best plant it´s another firm categorie, with diferent points of view ,beatiful plant, extrange plant(mountrose ,crested),big plant

Well this are some of my ideas ,what do you think ?

A Macro contest would be interesting, especially for those interested in photography.

Hey Daiv,

How about a picture contest about spination? No limits, it can be pics of the gnarly spination of a Ferocatus or the dainty spination of some Mammillarias. Not neccesarily a macro contest. Just an appreciation for the feature cactus are most known for.

You got it, but we will have to wait until the next one. I've already hit up CP for the next contest and it is going to be:

OK This sounds like it could be interesting. Any particular rules you'd like to apply?

I want to do a "cacti in habitat" contest, but I know that will be tough for a lot of members to participate in other than voting.

Might still be fun. Eventually we'll re-run some earlier topics. There has been a request for another cacti of color contest.

Following this thread, I would guess that the intent was to show 5 or more individual plants growing in close proximity. Such as seen often in habitat or massed plantings. A field or hillside containing many individual plants of the same species would be a good example.

From the submissions so far, It seems that the group consensus is that clumps are _single_ plants that are multi-headed, via offsets or splitting. I would call these clusters, which, on the show bench must be a single plant on a common root.

Sounds like two contests?? Maybe we can tighten the defination on the current one, based on the submissions so far, and start over with another for multiple plants??

Good clarification Gene -I always seem to miss something. I'll add this to the submission page.

(Yes -Cacti in the wild is a different contest.)

hi all, what about the insect on cactus contest. not on flower cause we have a few posted in macro.also we can consider a reptile or an animal on cactus contest may be even a bird?before repeating the prior themes , i think we must add other ideas to keep the interest ticking.
