I find it easiest to remember cacti names by understanding the Latin. Is there a good online source for translation of plant names?
'Austrocylindropuntia subulata':
Is it a cylindrical opuntia (It'll point ya?) from Australia? And the species, of course means under the lata.
I've tried simple latin translators, but I don't know enough Latin to parse the roots, if ya know what I mean.

So many species, so little time
Austro is southern.
There's loads if you Google 'Botanical Latin'
Many species are named after people (look for -ii, -iae, -iana, -iorum endings) or places where they were discovered or live (-ensis).
(I hope I've got those right!)
