Re: Cactus id
Could be Notocactus leninghausii or a Lobivia hybrid with Trichocereus
Re: Cactus id
It think this is a Haageocereus based on height and number of ribs. There are several species that grow flowers near the tip like Parodia ("Notocactus") do.
Higher res photos and photos of the growing tip would help.

Re: Cactus id
Thanks for the responses Tom and download, I moved this cactus with me when I moved to Reno from California Bay Area 5 yrs ago and has been ok with the cold winters. However this year we had a couple of mornings down to 5* to 7* Fahrenheit and there is some darkening on one of the “pups”. I will included a close up picture to help with I.d.
Thanks Al
Thanks Al
Re: Cactus id
Helianthocereus/Trichocereus aff huascha IMHO
Re: Cactus id
Looks a bit like a Notocactus (Eriocactus) leninghausii but with stronger darker spines, therefore it could be a very old tall Notocactus (Eriocactus) schumannianus. Most you see are globular but very old plants can grow up to 1.8 meters high..

Re: Cactus id
Thank you Anttisepp and DaveW for the replies. This cactus has survived cold to 7*f, probably should cover with blanket in future?
Thanks Al

Re: Cactus id
The flowers appear to be on long stalks - which makes me think it's not leninghausii.
Re: Cactus id
Thisi is NOT leninghausii &Co. IMO
Re: Cactus id
Looks exactly like Trichocereus huascha I grow, agree with anttisepp.
Re: Cactus id
Sorry, thought that was shadow at the base of the flower not a long tube. Yes agree flowers too long for Notocactus group.
