Sorry, I don't know the plant's name. It might prove difficult without a picture of flower.
But don't worry about breaking: If it does, just care for the wounds and get a 2nd plant!

Cut the upper end of the remaining plant at an angle so that no water remains (fungi!) & because a smooth wound heals better.
Cut the other end at an angle towards the central bundle -- this is the circle of light spots in the middle of the wound. Let the plant part dry for a few days so that the wound forms callus, and plant it. Do not water immediately -- only a couple of days later!!! Until it grows its own roots, water carefully and maybe give it a stick to stabilize.
