What kind of Ferocactus is this?

Post by TheORKINMan »

Local nursery had two of these. Have had suggestions that it is F. histrix or F. Glaucesens. Only thing that makes me question those IDs is the complete lack of a center outward pointing spine on any of the clusters. Not sure if that's a characteristic of young Ferocactus though. There were others in the same pots that did have that center spine. Curious as to opinions! Image link below

Ahh Traveler's Friend! I hope it is indeed F. Emory. These super young cacti all look so similar. I suppose I'll just have to grow it bigger to be 100% 🤣

My 1st cactus collection was a young Ferocactus emoryi which is very similar to the cactus on your photo.
F. glaucescens has different spine colour.
