Liquid gold (water)

Post by JCcares »

This is how I catch and save rain water.

If it’s a good rain I get 40 gallons in less then 20 minutes.

This post could be confirmation “This newbie is crazy”. At least my thinks my obsession love for cacti is😂

I filter it twice.

There are devices to collect it from your house or outhouse rainwater guttering and downpipe. The water fills the water but until it gets to overflow level then the water overflows down the bottom of the downpipe as it did previously, meaning you don't waste any rainwater until the butt is full.

There are a few slightly different versions in videos here:-

They are usually available on Amazon or EBAY.

Of course you need a water but as well! You only need a water but stand or a pile of bricks if you have a tap at the bottom of the water but and want to get a bucket or can underneath it. If you use a water but pump its not needed.

How about the snow water? It is half/half where I live but I don't have space for 40 gallons so switching to tap water from time to time.🏜️.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

I use only rainwater for cactus watering.

Rainwater fallen over greenhouse roof is collected by gutter and it runs into downpipe connected to rainwater tanks.
The large greenhouse has 210 gallons x two tanks and the small one has 210 gallons, one tank.
A tap for the watering is set in the greenhouse.

Water in rainwater tanks has never runout through a year.

The photo is rainwater tanks for the large greenhouse.

Liquid gold indeed. Quite disappointing that it doesn't rain here nearly enough to make collecting rain water worth it. Seems like we get record breaking droughts every other year or so...
