Will this 50% diffusion tarp work to cut the Direct sunlight off of my cacti seedlings? They make one that diffuses 75% of direct sunlight. Never raised seedlings before not sure how much of the sunshine to filter.
And when there is a forecast for rain I can put the transparent clear tarp on top of that? Anchor them both down in case there are high winds?
Thank you for sharing your experience and ideas with me. I got this idea from this great blog

Just make sure there is plenty of air movement under your clear tarp. It can get really hot under there. And, wind getting under there will really tear up your anchors unless you have it really secure. You will have a sail there. You could run a rope over the top of the tarp to help hold it when the wind of a thunderstorm tears through. Gusts of 60 mph will take that away. Just be prepared for it.
My gut says 50% shade is too much, but what do I know.

Thank you Jerry and YES I understand about the thunderstorms the big wind gust. I experience just what you gave attention to when I catch rainwater for my Cacti.jerrytheplater wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 10:31 pm Just make sure there is plenty of air movement under your clear tarp. Thank you promethean_spark. I can buy 40 to 70% shade material.

Enough light that they don't get etiolated (for some slower growing species you might actually want a bit of etiolation: viewtopic.php?p=388884&hilit=propagatio ... us#p388884). But not so much light that the seedlings get stunted (turn red, brown).
