Unnecessary winter watering also contributes to increasing the salt content of the potting mix. So the collector will have to change that soil more often. That might be OK if you looking for the easy way to kill your only succulent. But for the folks with hundreds or thousands plants it would be much extra hard work, not counting the watering itself that might take even several days in some large collections.
