Hello. I’m looking for Lawrencia helmsii. Either seed or cutting. Really cool Australian succulent!

Interesting. Looks a bit like Anacampseros glued on sticks!

But unfortunately Australian succulents are not easy to obtain. Maybe it will take a few decades for them to become more mainstream.

Haha. It does!

Why do you think that is?

There are lots of restrictions for removing/collecting native flora and fauna in Australia, unless you have a special permit/license.
There are also multiple layers of rules/regulations regarding selling/transporting plant materials between each state.
A lot of plants/seeds are not allowed to sell/post to another state within Australia.
With all the problems caused by flora/fauna trading/collection in the world for the last few hundred years,
Lots of plants became weeds, and took over or destroyed the native species; when people didn’t dispose it properly, sometime can have disastrous impact on local environment/plants/wildlife.
I think it serves a purpose to protect plants in their own natural habitat.

Regarding Lawrencia helmsii, I don’t think you can get it any time soon.
I bought some native succulent seeds from one of the expect in the field (Attila Kapitany), he also didn’t have that for sell too.
Here is an article he wrote about Lawrencia helmsii.

Another link about the species.

This species only occurs at some parts of Western Australia (spreading over a very vast area, bigger than most of the size of some countries).
I had been to that area multiple time, haven’t seen one yet. Maybe next time. :D

Oh wow. That's interesting. I wasn't sure how common it was. I also had no idea about Australians regulations, but it makes sense. I'm all about protecting plants in their habitat. I thought Lawrencia helmsii could be a plant that could be picked up in a nursery over there or something. Thanks for the links! What a cool plant!
