Post by Narubest »

Good morning, afternoon and evening wherever you are.

I will be keeping a journal on my seed sowing adventures this year.

These are the varieties I will be sowing or have sowed. around 30 of each type will be sown. I will be reporting the rates that the seedlings grow true to form . I suspect I will have a lot of average 8 ribbed asterias. But perhaps the rates will be useful for someone else who is trying to build up an astrophytum collection from seed

Good luck I sowed a lot of those Japanese astros this year and the variability is huge! Many look like normal plants. A low percentage show the features I was looking for. At least the first year anyway.

I had good experiences with asterias kikko. Out of 40 seeds. only 3-4 were "normal 8 ribbed astros" but so far It seems that varigated ones are very uncommon even when parents are variegated

Post those photos I enjoy looking at pots overfilled with seedlings... find it satisfying to see those photos of seedlings pushing up against each other due to lack of space.

You found me!. I got some good photos for you soon. I sowed a bunch of pots with 100 seeds inside them each. Should be nice and packed!
