I was faster than the Peres today, all weeded out.
My angry monster Crassula watches over the greenhouse, like a tiki to keep the evil away
And hopefully keeps the mealybugs away too.

Today I repotted some Harrissia jusbertii and Blue Myrtle that have been scarred and sick in the past. I am hoping they will produce healthy offsets that will serve as future grafting stocks.

Ordered some Cereus peruvianus seeds off ebay.
Will grow them up amd see if they make a.half decent grafting stock.
At this point, I'm so short on cacti to graft to, that I'm willing to try a lot of alternatives to my old primaries, Peres & Myrtillo geo.
The weather was crap yesterday and today it was actually too hot in the greenhouse.
Need to get some good thermometers set up in there.
Germination rates for the seeds that recently arrived from Italy are not terribly good. I'm trying to work out why, since they are supposed to be fresh.
A third Discocactus horstii seedling sprouted today, from the 10 seeds a local friend gave me. It will be really good to have them growing in my collection again.
None of the 40 Ario fiss Godzilla seeds that I planted have come up. That's not a worry yet, as sometimes in the past, I have had Ario seed take 2 to 3 weeks to start germinating.
Anyways, the Italian seeds were pricey and they are my biggest worry for now. If I can get just 2 or 3 flowering plants from each type, it will.have been worth the cost, so time to keep fingers crossed.

Well, I jinxed myself. Today we are expecting a major thunderstorm, and Tuesday through Saturday back to crap, cold grey Winter weather. The hottest day all week is just 17c with nights dropping down to 5 or below again.
I just want the crap weather to go away so my plants will start growing again.
I have whole trays of Pereskiopsis just waiting for warm nights to really start exploding. I managed to find 10 that are good enough (barely) to graft onto.
I need them though as I have red flowering variegated asterias seedlings that desperately need a boost.
Adding some pics of Lithops that did well over the Winter and a grafted Aztekium valdezii that's actually growing.
My biggest Onzuka, own roots actually, dwarfs my other Astros except for the Ornatums.

Pouring rain all day, high winds and cold cold cold.
Today was spent doing grafting. All but one seedling grafted today are Astrophytum asterias nudum variegate and Astro asterias variegate with red flowers.
The other seedling grafted is an Astrophytum myriostigma Rokkotsu.

Potted up more grafting stock.
It's ugly, scarred and some probably a bit diseased, but it is what it is.

Something interesting in one of my seedling trays. The following pic is a seriea of Asyrophytum aaterias. The first really differentiated seedlings have popped up.
It looks like they have huge golden aeroles.
At best, some of the other seedlings have a white spine or tiny bit of hair, but nothing like this. What do you think?

I don't know what it will be, but it sure is different and worth giving extra care and TLC.

I will graft it soon, I'm keen to see what it will turn into.

And speaking of grafting, I have grafted 4 almost white seedlings from red flowering, variegated asterias parents.

Today is the last day of Winter.
I can't wait for it to be away.
Will be better again when everything is in full grow mode but one thing at a time.

For better or worse, I grafted the strange looking seedling today. I grafted the bottom half of it seperately as well, that might actually take and be a backup.
Keep your fingers crossed that it not only takes, but grows spectacularly.
I can't wait to see what it looks like mature.

I have grafted 4 almost white seedlings from red flowering, variegated asterias parents.
I can't wait until I see some of these growing.

I grafted white asterias seedlings before. They reached to the flowering age but they could not make normal flowers.
Their lives were short evenif they were grafted.

I hope your seedlings live longer and make normal flowers.

Those look great. I hope mine grow, even if they are short lived. It would be bext if there was some degree of variegation that could keep them alive.

I keep own-root if the degree of variegation was less than 50%. They can grow but it is very slowly.
Unfortunately the degree is not consistent. It will move more or less during growing but you do not know.
