Euphorbia japonica is dying - how to save by taking cuttings

Hi everybody,
I really do need help! My Euphorbia japonica did start to rot and is super soft at the bottom amd roots. It seems like the only way to save it would be to take of "cuttings". Some of the "small arms" (I'm not sure hoe to call them), do still look good. I couldn't find something in the Internet and am not sure if I can just cut them off like I would do it when propagating other succulents.
Your help would be very much appreciated! I can also send pictures if that would help.
Thanks a lot and best regards,
Alex
