My bad, I wasn’t referring to the meaning of the name, I was trying to say that the label wasn’t way off when it came to the ID
I understood that you were referring to the accuracy of the identification. I know nothing of cacti, so I couldn't comment on that. I know a bit more about Greek and grey hairs.

I am personally acquainted with many grey hairs. Quite attached to them.

Being very fond of everything Opuntiads, I couldn’t resist this road kill cactus ( Consolea rubescens) when I found it. How wise it is to buy a cactus who can grow to be rather big , when you have only windowsills to offer, is questionable though..
This Opuntia microdasys rufida (?) also came home with me..

Yes, I admit it, I’m a cactiholic! ( and succulentholic too apparently..)
I came home with these; a really cool Euphorbia , I think it’s E.ritchiei? An Aloe and my first Astrophytums, two myriostigma. Reading ‘everywere’ about rotting Astrophytums, I bought two just in case.. and a small grafted crested Euphorbia lactea .

I don’t know what you have to pay for the saucers(?) for pots, but they are pretty expencive here and I have to order them, which will add to the cost.
Since I don’t like to pay for things I can get for free, it occurred to me that lids on different glass jars were both free and perfect
I normally wouldn’t repot in winter but since I managed to knock some of the new plants off the bench, it had to be done. Hopefully they won’t rot. One of the A.myriostigma was among the victims, it will be interesting to see if it survives the early repotting.
The Euphorbia was very cramped in the pot, a new root shot was pressed against the pots side, so I repotted this one too.

Yes, it's true. I use all l kind of cups or other "packaging" stuff under my pots at home unless that pot comes with an original saucer. Jar covers get rusty after some years so I avoid those and prefer plastic or aluminium.

Me too
I see opportunities in all sorts of waste packages, not only lids. The plastic containers that some cakes come in, are great for sowing, since they have a see-through top.

Don’t give up
This Pilocereus glaucescens (?) I have had for years. In 2020 I noticed that the growth point was dying. Roughly a year ago I cut off the dead part and had to repeat the procedure two or three times before the rot stopped. I also repotted it , only to discover that there was no live roots left.
I misted it two or three times a week afterwards but the only thing that happened , it got more and more dehydrated. After several months ( about six, if I don’t remember wrong) it started to ‘gain weight’ again. Now, at least 18 months after I first noticed the dead growth point, it is producing a pup

I don’t know if anybody remembers these cacti, bought in a dishgarden? When taking them out of the pot, all of them had rot , some more than others.
Not willing to give up on them, I potted the ones who had the least damage to them. The others I placed on the balcony, barerooted. It was very hot and sunny for a period here and I made sure the rotted areas was exposed to the sun. Thinking that fresh air and sun heal wounds on mammals, so why not in cacti?
They lay bare rooted for a month or so, even getting a couple of hevy rainfalls on them.
Seeing that the cacti grew a little , bare rooted on the balcony , I desided to pot them and take them indoors. The root haven’t progressed as far as I can see nd the cacti is firm to the touch. I will not declare victory yet but there is hope
The ones in the photos here, are the ones who looked the worst when taking them out of the dishgarden.
I inspected these cacti today. They are still firm and green and since it’s now more than 8 months since I got them, I have hope that they will survive
