Interesting crested succulent

Went to the LA Flower District for the first time yesterday. Mostly cut flowers (which were worthwhile on their own), but also some cacti and succulents occasionally

Found this crested echeveria(?) in a display of sad-looking succulents. I have only seen a few crested succulents (outside Crassula) so I had to have it. A dollar later I was the proud owner of this unusual and interesting plant

When I got home, I dug up the roots because I had a feeling I needed to have a closer look. Looks like something has eaten quite a bit of the base. I'm letting the root ball and base dry now and the will swab the base with alcohol and replant. Fingers crossed

Definitely some odd growth there! Nice find. I'd buy that for a dollar!

Best of luck with that little monster!

Update:
It had a rough first month but it's recovered. The plant's healthy and growing now

Looks good! Congrats and lets hope the stress didn't revert it (I had one that completely reverted over winter)

I took a look last night and am confident at least a bit of it is still crested, or maybe the whole thing only time will tell. Even if the entire crest reverted it could still end up as an interesting looking plant (with an interesting story too...). I didn't actually know stress could induce defasciation

What plant did you have that reverted?

I'll take a picture of it later, but it was an Echeveria that reverted when had to repot the thing.
Still a very nice plant! Looks like a very dense clump right now! (though it became top heavy and "waterfalls" to a side)

Edit: just like to mention I don't completely remember when it reverted - either during the repot or over-winter

You don't see too many of those. Though it seems like Echeveria is more prone to fasciation than other Crassulaceae and I'm not sure why. I'm always on the lookout for oddities wherever I go and it pays off occasionally. Crested Echeveria are so cool

Finally took a picture, sorry for the wait (I kept forgetting):

Note the spontaneous defasciation near the middle

Edit: forgot to mention I'll be posting two other views on my member topics thread. So, that's my mention.

That's super interesting. Thanks for sharing

It did revert to non-crested growth :(

I'm not sure what this particular plant is, but it seems to have a knack for making reversion prone crests. I bought 3 crested examples of this plant at different times last year and they all reverted
