Stenocactus multicostatus

Post by nachtkrabb »

Here an older plant, not so "smooth".
If used, please add "collection of Nachtkrabb", photographer "Nachtkrabb". Thanks.

Multicostatus by definition has many ribs. This is most probably something else

All Stenocactus have many ribs, that is apart from the type species, but the name multicostatus = many ribs, and it has even more and usually thinner than the rest.

"Ribs: Many as the name implies, typically 50 to 100 (but occasionally up to 150 or more) very tight, thin, acute, wavy, very broad at the areoles."

...?!
When I look at this cactus, I can see many ribs.
When I look at the lexicon (https://cactiguide.com/cactus/?genus=St ... ticostatus), the non-flowering young plants look as my plant did when it was young.
The name was given here in the forum.
If you know a better name, please tell me.
