What type of cacti is this . . .

What type of cacti is this?
As you can see, from the twisted area up,this is all new growth this Summer. But, to my diappointment...there was no flowering.
Is there any tips to use to "inspire" a flower or two?
Any help would be welcome !!!

Any clue how old it is?
I got it on sale at a Home Depot, last Fall.
It is about 30 inches tall.

You've actually got a Euphorbia on your hands there and not an actual cactus. Some of the other members to this forum will probably be able to help give you some tips on growing this plant. I would say you have Euphorbia ammak. The care is just like any cactus very little water in winter and full sun when possible. If you do get flowers they will be very small but many of them.

I'm afraid that you will find that the flowers won't add much to the "beauty" of the plant. The flowers of that Euphorbia are small green and non-descript. They are nothing like the big showy flowers you see on the cacti whose stems look similar.
